Situated in the center of the University of South Carolina’s practice and tailgating facilities, coach Will Muschamp called the Cyndi and Kenneth Long Family Football Operations Center a “game-changer” for the football and athletics programs. What once was an open-air farmers market where local residents flocked to gather vegetables in the summer and Christmas trees in December is now the crown jewel of football operations at the University of South Carolina.
The state-of-the-art, four-story, 110,000-square-foot facility towers over the entire Gamecock Park “football campus.” The facility contains coaches’ offices, meeting spaces, a players’ lounge, dining rooms, and more than 30,000 square feet dedicated to training facilities.
Some of the engineering challenges included utility main relocations, re-configuring of existing parking spaces, driveways, sidewalks and pedestrian pathways, and keeping the adjacent facilities functional and safe at all times, while using additional protective measures during game-day operations.
