Cox and Dinkins served as the prime consultant for the widening of Atlas Road, a widely-used cut through between U.S. Route 378 and Shop Road and ultimately leading to I-77. The primary design focus of this road widening project was to increase traffic capacity along the corridor, provide vehicular safety improvements by implementing two-way left turn lanes, and increase pedestrian and bicycle shared-use space.
The Atlas Road corridor begins at the intersection of Bluff Road and proceeds northeasterly for a distance of approximately 2.8-miles, terminating at the intersection of Garners Ferry Road (U.S. Routes 76 and 378). One section of the design expanded the existing travel-way from two lanes to three lanes and the remainder from two lanes to five lanes, consisting of two travel lanes in each direction.
