Cox and Dinkins served as the prime consultant for the widening of Atlas Road, a widely-used cut-through between U.S. Route 378 and Shop Road, ultimately leading to I-77. The primary design focus of this road widening project was to increase traffic capacity along the corridor, provide vehicular safety improvements by implementing two-way left turn lanes, and increase pedestrian and bicycle shared-use space.
The Atlas Road corridor begins at the intersection of Bluff Road and proceeds northeasterly for approximately 2.8 miles, terminating at the intersection of Garners Ferry Road (U.S. Routes 76 and 378). One section of the design expanded the existing travel way from two to three lanes and the remainder from two to five lanes, consisting of two travel lanes in each direction.
