Cox and Dinkins, Inc. is excited to announce that Mr. Gene L. Dinkins, Jr. has recently been appointed to serve on the City of Columbia Board of Zoning Appeals (BoZA). Mr. Dinkins’ term will last through December, 2019. BoZA is a quasi-judicial city board that is authorized to hear appeals in matters related to the City’s zoning ordinances.
Mr. Dinkins has worked at Cox and Dinkins for the majority of his life. Gene received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University in 2002. In 2005, Mr. Dinkins became a licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) and in 2009 he became a LEED© Accredited Professional (AP). Gene’s engineering degree coupled with his in-house on the job training make him well-informed in all matters related to land surveying, engineering design and zoning issues.
Mr. Dinkins previously volunteered his time to the City of Columbia as he was appointed and served on the Code Enforcement Task Force. He also served 6 years on the City Planning Commission, where he was most recently the Vice-Chairman, until his term expired in October 2016. Gene is also one of the founding members of the Congaree Riverkeeper Organization, a non-profit organization founded to help protect the city’s rivers and clean water, and served as a board member and Vice-Chairman of the Board.
In his free time, Gene enjoys exercising, watching Clemson football, spending time with his wife and their King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and the outdoors.
